Plan history

A record of one foreign retirement or savings plan, built from your statements and transaction histories. It works out whether you own part of the plan, what goes on Form 3520 each year, and your basis for later payouts.

On its own

A year-by-year record to keep, with a PDF and a spreadsheet you can hand to your preparer.

With your Form 3520

Link it to a return and its figures fill the form, with a check before you mark the return final.

What you add

Your plan's statements and transaction histories, entered as you have them: contributions, withdrawals and balances. If you only have yearly totals, it works from those and says what they can't show.

What it works out

Whether your own contributions have passed your employer's, and when. The part of the plan you own, its income for Form 3520-A, and what goes on Form 3520 each year. Your basis for later payouts, using exchange rates for each date. Where a year can't be worked out from what you've entered, it says so and holds that year rather than guess.

Which plans

It is set up for UK workplace and personal pensions, Australian superannuation funds and SMSFs, New Zealand KiwiSaver, India's EPF and NPS, and Canadian TFSAs and FHSAs, with a general method for any other plan.

A plan history doesn't decide whether your plan is reportable. Check your country's guide first: country guides.

Plan histories are part of the Full and Pro plans. If you have an account, sign in at the top of the page to see yours.
